Building Automation & Physical Security

HVAC, access control, video and fire panels converged with the enterprise estate — and a PoE lighting question most pilots never ask.

Also known as BAS, Lenel, PoE Lighting, Access Control

Building automation architecture for the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Ed Austin State Attorney’s Office, converging HVAC, access control, video, and fire and emergency panels with the enterprise IT estate. Lenel access control throughout.

Later, a PoE lighting feasibility pilot with GraceMark Consulting against a specific question: whether a building could move to PoE lighting without stranding the legacy lighting already installed, and whether both could be driven from the same automation layer. Lighting is rarely replaced all at once, so the interesting problem is not the new fixture — it is whether new and old can be operated as one system while the estate transitions.

Once lighting rides on the network it stops being an electrical system and becomes an endpoint estate, with everything that implies for addressing, power budgeting, segmentation and who owns the change window.
