Building Automation and PoE Lighting Feasibility Pilot

Whether a building could move to PoE lighting without stranding the legacy lighting already installed.

Run with GraceMark Consulting, evaluating PoE lighting manufacturers against a specific question. Lighting is rarely replaced all at once, so the interesting problem is not the new fixture — it is whether new and old can be operated as one system while the estate transitions.

The integration path ran into building automation alongside Siemens building systems and Lenel access control, using webMethods as the integration layer so lighting, HVAC, access control and the rest could exchange state rather than sit as parallel islands each with its own front end.

Once lighting rides on the network it stops being an electrical system and becomes an endpoint estate.

Outcome

An integration path where new and old lighting could be operated as one system through the transition.
