Casino Surveillance Network Design and Segmentation

Surveillance refresh and segmentation for a metropolitan casino property — designed as Principal Architect and governed as Director, through a phased implementation and a mid-program re-scope.

The gaming regulator sets retention and chain of custody on the footage. That single fact decides the network, because evidence that cannot be shown to have been held intact is not evidence — so the estate carrying it is segmented by requirement rather than by preference, and the boundary has to be arguable to somebody who is not a network engineer.

The work was a surveillance refresh and the segmentation around it, delivered in phases, with a re-scope partway through. Re-scopes are worth recording rather than smoothing over: a program that changes shape mid-flight is the normal case, and what matters is whether the design survives it or has to be redrawn.

Designed in one role, governed in the next

This engagement started during the fourteen weeks as Principal Architect and continued under the director’s design review gate. Being on both sides of that line on the same engagement is a specific kind of useful — the reviewer knows what the drawing was actually trying to do, and the designer knows what the review is going to ask.

Outcome

A surveillance estate segmented to a regulator's requirement rather than to preference, and a design carried by the same person from the drawing to the delivery.
