Clerk of the Court Filtering and DMZ Architecture

A separate filtering estate and demilitarized zone for an independently governed constitutional officer sharing City facilities.

Begun in 2016, five months after the City’s own estate moved onto Forcepoint, and run as an entirely separate engagement rather than as a branch of the city program. The Clerk of the Court is an independently governed constitutional officer colocated in City facilities: same buildings, same physical plant, separate legal authority.

Carried from requirement through vendor testing to a documented Forcepoint architecture and DMZ layout at successive revisions, then testing and go-live with the Clerk’s own technical staff. It ran that way until the end of the City tenure.

This is the same problem that runs through the rest of the estate, in miniature. Shared infrastructure, separate legal authority, and a boundary that has to be written down explicitly because neither party can direct the other. Where an ordinary enterprise would settle an interface like this with a conversation between two managers, here it needs an architecture document both sides can point at — and the go-live has to be run by the Clerk’s people rather than for them, because the system is theirs to operate afterwards.

Outcome

A boundary written down explicitly, between two parties where neither can direct the other.
